Nanda Font Review: Authentic Script for Brand Identity

There is a specific moment in every boutique branding project where the mood board feels right, but the typography just isn't landing. I was recently staring at a blank brand board for an artisanal skincare line, cycling through the usual rotation of popular scripts. They were either too polished and digital or too messy to read at small sizes. Then I loaded up Nanda. Within minutes, the visual identity shifted from generic "handmade" to something that felt genuinely curated and elevated. As a designer who tests typefaces in active projects rather than just browsing specimen sheets, I found Nanda to be a rare find in the crowded category of elegant script fonts.

Nanda distinguishes itself through what I call "controlled authenticity." Many display fonts in the Script Amp collection lean heavily into exaggerated swashes or chaotic baselines that look great in a preview window but fail in practical application. Nanda, however, maintains a rhythmic consistency. The letterforms have the organic variance of real handwriting—the slight lift of an 'o', the confident entry stroke of a capital 'N'—but they are anchored by professional spacing and optical balance. When I dropped it onto the skincare logo concept, it didn't need significant kerning adjustments to feel bespoke. It carried an immediate sense of heritage and tactile quality that aligned perfectly with natural ingredients and glass packaging.

Performance Across Logo Design and Packaging

The true test of any premium font is how it survives the transition from screen to physical substrate. For this project, I needed a typeface that could serve as the primary logotype while also functioning on secondary assets like jar labels and box sleeves. Nanda performed exceptionally well in the logo lockup. Its high contrast strokes remained crisp when scaled down for a 30mm jar lid, which is often where delicate scripts fall apart. The thick-to-thin transitions are deliberate enough to hold ink on textured paper without bleeding, yet refined enough to look sharp on glossy business cards.

On the packaging mockup, Nanda acted as the emotional hook. In modern typography systems for beauty brands, there is often a disconnect between the sterile sans serif used for ingredient lists and the decorative header. Nanda bridged that gap. Because its x-height is relatively generous for a script, it maintained legibility even when used for short phrases like "Hand-poured Botanicals" on the side panel. It didn't compete with the regulatory text; instead, it provided a necessary visual pause that guided the eye back to the brand name. This ability to function as both a headline font and an accent element makes it a versatile workhorse for product design.

Digital Applications and Social Media Layouts

Brand identity extends far beyond print, and I was curious to see how Nanda translated to web design and social media graphics. Script fonts can sometimes feel out of place on screens due to pixel rendering issues at lower resolutions. However, testing Nanda in a website hero section revealed solid digital performance. Used against a muted clay background, the white typeface rendered cleanly. It worked best as a large-scale display element rather than navigation text, reinforcing the brand's artisanal voice immediately upon page load.

For Instagram templates, Nanda proved to be an asset for quote overlays and announcement posts. The authentic feel of the letterforms adds a layer of intimacy to digital content that standard system fonts cannot achieve. When designing carousel slides, I paired Nanda with a geometric sans serif for body copy. The contrast created a clear visual hierarchy: Nanda captured attention and set the tone, while the supporting typeface delivered the information. This dynamic is crucial for engagement; the script draws the user in, but the readable pairing keeps them consuming the content. Just be mindful of mobile responsiveness. On smaller viewports, I found it necessary to increase the font size slightly or switch to a simpler alternative for subheads to ensure accessibility wasn't compromised.

Strategic Font Pairing and Hierarchy

Nanda is undeniably striking, but it cannot carry a brand system alone. Through testing, I developed a few reliable pairing strategies that maximize its strengths without overwhelming the layout:

A critical observation during these pairings was spacing. Nanda has open counters and flowing connections, so it needs breathing room. Avoid placing heavy bold weights directly adjacent to it, as the density can make the script look fragile. Instead, use lighter weights or increased tracking in the supporting typeface to create a harmonious balance across your design assets.

Practical Limitations and Licensing Considerations

While Nanda is a powerful tool, it is not a universal solution. Experienced designers know that honesty about limitations saves time later. Nanda is strictly a display font. Do not attempt to use it for paragraphs, long-form editorial text, or UI elements like buttons and menus. The connected nature of the glyphs reduces reading speed significantly at small sizes, which hurts user experience and accessibility. It is also likely too informal for corporate finance, legal, or medical branding where trust is communicated through stability rather than flourish.

Before committing Nanda to a final client deliverable, always verify the commercial font licensing. Script fonts often have different tiers for desktop, web, and merchandise use. If you are designing for a client who plans to sell products featuring the logo (like t-shirts or mugs), ensure your license covers commercial reproduction. Additionally, check the included OpenType features. Nanda typically includes alternates and ligatures that are essential for avoiding repetitive letter shapes in longer words. Utilizing these features is what separates a professional implementation from an amateur one. Test the font thoroughly in the actual software environment you’ll be delivering files in; what looks perfect in Illustrator might behave differently in Canva or Figma.

Ultimately, Nanda succeeds because it respects the intelligence of the viewer. It offers the warmth of handwriting without sacrificing the rigor required for professional brand identity. Whether you are refreshing a café menu, designing luxury stationery, or building a cohesive social media presence, this typeface provides that elusive blend of personality and polish. It is a reminder that in a landscape of automated design tools, there is still immense value in typography that feels distinctly, authentically human.
